Even if you go through most of your beauty routine before going to bed, there are some steps that are easier to do at the very last minute. That’s why almost every girl has some beauty essentials on her bedside table. The best part is that they’re are always there so you’ll remember to use them every night. Here’s a selection of my bedside beauty favourites.
Finding your ideal hairbrush can take a bit of time. You have to make a choice about size, shape, vented, ceramic…
When it comes to shape, there are flat and round hairbrushes. Choosing the right shape depends on whether you’re trying to flatten your hair or create volume. If you have coarse, dry, thick hair, go for a flat brush. These are ideal for detangling and smoothing your hair down. On the other hand, if you have fine hair, go for a round brush. These are better for creating body, lift, shape, and bend.
When it comes to size, as a general rule, the longer the hair, the bigger the brush. Long hair usually gets tangled up in a smaller brush. So if your hair is quite long, use a bigger brush at night untangle your hair from the bottom up. Starting from the roots puts a lot of unnecessary stress on your strands that can lead to breakage.
Boar-bristle brushes give your hair the most shine. Even though they’re a bit more expensive than their counterparts, these brushes are worth every penny. Natural boar bristles help stimulate the scalp, distributing oils from your scalp throughout the hair shaft to give your hair a healthy, glossy shine.
While boar-bristle brushes are ideal for fine to medium hair, as my hair is quite thick I chose a mix of boar and nylon bristles. My Beauty by Earth Boar Bristle Hair Brush has long nylon pins that are great for detangling my hair at night. And I’ve even noticed less hair shedding since I started using it very night. Remember not to over-brush your hair as you can damage your hair’s cuticle. Three to four strokes are generally enough to remove any knots or reshape your style.
Even though I cleanse my face in the bathroom after brushing my teeth, I leave the last two steps of my beauty routine until I’m tucked into bed. This way I can allow enough time for my serum to absorb before applying my night moisturizer, especially in the heat of summer.

This body balm is somewhere between a butter and a lotion. It works wonders when my hands are feeling a bit dry or itchy, or if I’m suffering from post-shave or wax irritation, especially during summer. It’s enhanced with Vanille and Sandalwood.
