Is Bakuchiol the Best Defense Against Aging?

Is Bakuchiol the Best Defense Against Aging?

by Mark Gray September 11, 2017

Bakuchiol has proven its efficacy in treating acne, which is sometimes seen as a young person’s skin condition. At the same time this plant-derived substance has real value as an anti-aging therapy.

This is because of bakuchiol’s ability to combat the mitochondrial damage caused by oxidative stress, which accumulates over the years. Here’s what one study found:

Bakuchiol was also formulated into a finished skin care product and was tested in clinical case study by twice-a-day facial application. The results showed that, after 12 weeks treatment, significant improvement in lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, elasticity, firmness and overall reduction in photo-damage was observed, without usual retinol therapy-associated undesirable effects.

The last point is an important one. Retinol (Vitamin A) is known to provide anti-aging benefits when applied to the skin. Unfortunately, it is also associated with side effects such as skin irritation and sensitivity to light – which are pretty serious caveats for a skin care product.

That’s why we specify bakuchiol in Ao Repair and Ao Rewind. You receive the anti-aging benefits with fewer risks of unwanted side effects.

A New Role for Lasers in Maintaining Skin Health
A New Role for Lasers in Maintaining Skin Health

Technologies such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) are commonly used for wrinkle reduction, and of course there’s a place for lasers in tattoo removal. This suggests a philosophy of aggressive intervention rather than the approach we generally prefer, which is to promote homeostasis, i.e. the skin’s natural ability to maintain itself.
